The objective of the TRIMING project is to improve access to irrigation and drainage services, and to strengthen institutional arrangements for integrated water resources management and agriculture service delivery in selected large-scale public schemes in Northern Nigeria.
Four major components and sub-components with varying degrees of intervention have been embedded into the objectives of the TRIMING project. Our approach is to make certain that water infrastructures, users of these infrastructures and the outputs that is generated from all these activities are all interrelated.
- Water Resources Management and Dam Operation Improvement
- Irrigation Development and Management
- Enhance Agricultural Productivity and Support Value Chains Development
- Institutional Development and Project Management
The strategy of the TRIMING project is to lead a gradual adoption and implementation of reforms, and then go on to manage and gradually increase administrative and financial self-governance with the goal to achieve full cost recovery for the operational and maintenance cost of the transportation and distribution of water to farmers in these focus areas.
The responsibility for operation and maintenance of tertiary irrigation and drainage canals will eventually be transferred to the WUAs, followed by higher level infrastructure in due course based on an assessment of the capacity of WUAs to manage them.
